Blake Caldwell’s Clutch Hitting Propels Licking Heights Varsity Hornets To Victory Over Briggs

Blake Caldwell drove in four runs on one hit to lead Licking Heights Varsity Hornets past Briggs 15-0 on Wednesday at Berne Union High School. Caldwell hit an inside the park grand slam in the fourth inning, scoring four runs, and walked in the third inning, scoring one.
Caldwell, Remy Alcorn, and AJ Karl-Cassette at the bottom of Licking Heights Varsity Hornets's lineup combined for five of the team's 10 hits in their victory. They scored six runs and drove in five.
Licking Heights Varsity Hornets got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Tino Martin grounded out, and Caleb Starns tripled to center field, each scoring one run.
Licking Heights Varsity Hornets scored six runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning. Martin singled, scoring two runs, Starns singled, scoring three runs, and Lance Burkhart grounded out, scoring one run.
Licking Heights Varsity Hornets added one run in the third after Caldwell walked.
Licking Heights Varsity Hornets scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Alcorn singled, scoring one run, Caldwell hit an inside the park grand slam, and Martin doubled, scoring one run.
Starns earned the win for Licking Heights Varsity Hornets. The starting pitcher gave up one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out nine and walking two. #19 took the loss for Briggs. The starter went one and two-thirds innings, giving up eight runs (six earned) on five hits, striking out none and walking three.
Licking Heights Varsity Hornets tallied 10 hits in the game. Alcorn, Martin, Starns, and Karl-Cassette each collected two hits for Licking Heights Varsity Hornets. Licking Heights Varsity Hornets had a strong eye at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game. Maxim Fink, Stone Fenton, and Caldwell led the team with two walks each. Fink stole two bases. Licking Heights Varsity Hornets ran wild on the base paths, amassing five stolen bases for the game.
#2 went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Briggs in hits.
