Our Lady Hornets jumped out in their first round of tourney play facing the Newark Catholic MS girls basketball team and the statement of purpose driven home. The Hornets came in as the number one seed and they played with laser focus. Lead by strong guard and team co-captain Madison Greene who painted a masterpiece knocking down 34 points and 5 assist. Trinity Jackson came game ready bringing her defensive greatness and added 9 points to the scoreboard. Tanni Barfield saw her share of playing time and had 4 field goals for 8 points and 5 steals and 6 rebounds. Alana Settles added the necessary compliment as team captain and orchestrated the offense in her point-guard position, aiding in 3 assist and 4 steals as she scored a field goal for 2 points. Anita Bamidele went to work on the glass sagging both offensive and defensive rebounds with a combined 10 boards and 2 points. Gabrielle Smith added some solid defensive minutes holding their post player to zero points in the paint. Perignon Warner, La’Mya Pernell and De’Ja Williams, all brought the on time energy with a hundred percent effort swarming on defense helping to keeping Newark under twenty points.
