Last night in a pack gym, our Lady Hornets for the first time in Licking Heights Central Middle School history, earned the honor of being, The Licking County Tournament Champions! The electrifying atmosphere added to the Pataskala inner city rivalry, against Watkins Memorial.
Our Lady Hornets earned the number seed during the regular season play, and the LCL Tournament Championship.
The team rallied from a 14-13 halftime deficit, and crushed the 3rd quarter by knocking down 7 field goals and 3 free throws and 1 3 pointer for a quarter high of 20 points. Trinity Jackson worked both ends of the floor with a key block that lifted the confidence of her squad. She also added 19 points which was her season high. Madison Greene, had a major assignment defending Watkins’ #24 K. Rennie, keeping her under 10 points. With their floor general under wraps, Greene then went to work by dropping 17 points of her own and shooting 100% from the line. Tanni Barfield contributed 7 points and the best defensive halfcourt matchup holding #23-R. McNeely to 15 points. La’Mya Pernell hit a field goal in the fourth quarter that sealed it for the Hornets. The Lady Hornets, Alana Settles, Avery Fuller, Perignon Warner, De’Ja Williams, Anita Bamidele and Gabrielle Smith all played a major role in capturing our first ever championship. We are all in this together and indeed, “The future is now and we have purpose.” Congratulations Lady Hornets, and thank you all for an amazing season!
