The varsity Wrestling team competed in the Big Walnut Firehouse Classic on Saturday and finished 5th place out of 10 teams despite only having 6 scoring wrestlers in the event. Leading the way for the Hornets were Juniors Josiah Harrell and Dereck Wilson both with tournament championships. Harrell recorded 5 first period pins and secured 17 takedowns without giving up an offensive point on the day. Josiah was named the tournaments most outstanding wrestler award. Harrell is now 12-0 on the season and is currently ranked 5th in the state in Division 1 at 170 pounds.
Wilson won the 160 pound weight class with 5 pins on the day including an :08 second pin and a :22 second pin in the championship match. Dereck is a returning district qualifier and now has a season record of 10-2.
Other placers for the Hornets were freshman Mitchell Coultas (3rd at 106), sophomore Hunter Boron-Perry (4th at 152), freshman Wyatt Peters (6th at 160), junior Josh Martin (4th at 182), and junior Garrett Sommerkamp (2nd at 285).
The Hornets compete next on Saturday the 19th at Bexley High School against Bexley and Whetstone.
